A root canal is often the only way to save a tooth from deep decay with or without an abscess, from repeated dental procedures or trauma to the tooth. This treatment can save the tooth from being extracted and will allow you to keep your natural tooth. Keeping the tooth helps to prevent your other teeth from drifting out of line and causing jaw problems. Saving a natural tooth avoids having to replace it with an artificial tooth. The root canal is less expensive than having to replace it.
Root canal treatment is the process of removing infected injured or dead pulp from your tooth. The space inside the hard layers of each tooth is called the root canal system. This system is filled with soft dental pulp made up of nerves and blood vessels that help your tooth to grow and develop. The dentist removes the pulp by cleaning and enlarging the root canal system, then fills and seals the canal. This will prevent the tooth from getting any infections or other complications. The opening of the tooth is then seal with either a temporary or permanent filling. The devitalized tooth will need a restoration after the treatment because it will become more fragile with more risks of a fracture.
After a successful root canal treatment, we will suggest that you get a crown and posts to hold it up. This will protect your tooth.
Please note that Studio Dentaire Art-Dent does not offer endodontic treatments. We will be happy to refer you to the dentist of your choice or to one of our colleagues. Then we will see you again for the continuation of your treatments.
