There are three types of material to seal a decayed or fractured tooth. These materials are often called “fillings”.
Amalgam (grey filling)
Because amalgam contains mercury the opinions on it are mixed. According to Health Canada there are several indications against amalgam, so we have removed this material from our practice. If your insurance only covers this product or you absolutely want amalgam, we will refer you to another dental clinic. We will be happy to send your dental plan to our partners.
Composite (white filling)
It is used to restore teeth with a small to medium sized cavity.
Composite is durable, safe and aesthetic, it is a top choice material.
Porcelain
Made in a laboratory, porcelain veneers, crowns and inlays are what are most similar to the natural teeth. Very durable and solid, it is glued to your natural teeth and gives an incomparable aesthetic.
